I am currently running two tanks and trying to keep the same water parameters for both tanks the same. I also want to do a diy, submerged small rubble sump that I want to run the heaters and what not in. I am trying to do this in order to help with keeping both tanks stable as well as keeping all equipment in one sump, instead of having double of everything heaters, sump, pumps I am going to be using a pvc overflow set up.
What I had planned was to have an overflow from the 80 gal, move water to the From the 55 gal run another overflow into a sump. I want to use one sump, one pump for both tanks and figured this was the most feasible option. Would this idea work, in your experience or opinion? When I don’t do filter maintenance, sometimes I’ll just use the water hose if it doesn’t look like I have much to vac up off the sand. For me, the problem with using buckets is filling them with tap water most sinks cant accomodate a large bucket , and then dumping them into the tank without spilling it all over.
I don’t consider it much of a hassel to drain water into a bucket, carry it around, and then dump out the door or down the drain. Maybe that’ll change as I get older or do it a couple hundred more times, but for now its just part of the routine.

I use pliers coated with electrical tape to put and remove the brass adaptor on the faucet: Dripper testing and unclogging. I throw all suspect drippers into a jar and soak them in a vinegar solution, with some jar shaking. To test them, I hook up one of the filter adaptors see above to a faucet, using Python part number 69HD brass faucet adaptor. Python does make a plastic version of this adaptor, but I found it very difficult to use. You may have to rig up a different adapter setup if your faucet has different threads.
I add a short length of tubing; I then connect up a dripper and turn on the faucet just a little pressure is needed. With inline drippers, you have to cover the end with your finger to force the water out of the dripper hole. If it doesn’t drip, I try to clean out the hole with a dissecting needle. The ABS tube tends to compress as you cut, so that when you are done, the slot will not be as wide as the width of your saw blade. Feed each tube through the saw a second time to clean up the cut for a consistent width.
Repeat the slot cutting process with the ABS caps, keeping in mind what direction you want the nipples to be pointing when the panel is fully assembled.
